Christina has directed a number of choirs over the past years, and offers a range of choir leadership skills. Please see below for more information, including information about available choirs and workshops…
Christina has previously worked as the Musical Director for Ridley Hall Gospel Choir, Stamford Gospel Choir, Sutton Bridge Community Gospel Choir, Simply Sing Community Choir in Kings Lynn, Voices Unplugged in Spalding as well as various Christmas choirs (and a Christmas orchestra and band) and school choirs. If you have, or wish to start, a choir and are looking for a musical director please feel free to contact Christina. She is also happy to help with a mentorship program for new choir leaders should this be of help to you.please get in touch
From time to time Christina runs workshops in various parts of the country that you may be interested in (everyone is welcome!) You may also wish to invite her to lead a workshop for you. It could be with an existing choir, or it may be at a function, party or even a wedding reception (or helping plan a surprise for the wedding!) Whatever the event you can be sure that you'll be sounding your best, whilst laughing (a lot) along the way.please get in touch
Nothing pulls a group of people into a team quite like singing together, especially if they then perform together (as is proven by the success of Gareth Malone's BBC Sing While You Work, Business Choirs.) Christina encourages people to come out of their comfort zone, to try things they thought they could never do which has a knock-on effect on the whole choir then having the confidence to step out into something new. This is ALWAYS done in a supportive, encouraging environment modeled by Christina and copied by the rest of the choir which has an amazing effect of drawing everyone together. Christina's job is to encourage and engage everyone in the choir with her energy and enthusiasm as well as to make them all sound great! This is available as an intensive course (nationally or locally) or a regular event (locally.)please get in touch
Christina has taken a variety of school choirs, sometimes as a regular event and sometimes to prepare for a particular concert. She has spent decades working with children of all ages and is very happy to find the most appropriate music for each group (from classical, to fun songs, show tunes to pop.) If you would like to find out if Christina can help your school please contact her to discuss your requirements.please get in touch
Some of Christina's previous choirs…
Simply Sing, Kings Lynn
'Simply Sing is a mixed voice community choir based in King’s Lynn, Norfolk. We believe that the joy of singing should be available to everyone, regardless of their experience, and that everyone has a voice, whether they have found it yet or not. The choir welcomes people of all ages, and there are no auditions required. Our music is learned by ear, so there is no need to read sheet music. Our only membership requirements are a desire to sing and have fun whilst making music with others. Our repertoire includes a wide range of music from many different styles from pop music, stage shows, film music, and classic choral music; we aim to have something for everyone.
Community Gospel Choir, Sutton Bridge
'This choir really is for everyone and welcomes members of all ages and abilities. Although it is a Christian choir it welcomes anyone who would like to join. Music ranges from soulful, traditional spirituals and early gospel songs, to lively modern songs as well as those written specifically for the choir by its director, Christina Oxtoby.
Christina has led a number of different choirs over the years, but it was her introduction to the Gospel Choir of Ridley Hall College, Cambridge (that she eventually went on to lead,) that gave her such a love of Gospel Music. She then founded and led Stamford Gospel Choir before starting Sutton Bridge Gospel Choir. She believes that great harmonies and cool rhythms make great music, whilst a supportive, friendly atmosphere that welcomes everyone who joins, builds a loving community that allows people to try new things. Music is mostly learnt by ear (how this music is traditionally taught) and although this may initially sound daunting people are always surprised, after a couple of weeks, by how quickly they start to remember it.' Sutton Bridge Gospel Choir
Voices Unplugged, Spalding
'This is a friendly and well-established singing group… The group welcomes old and new adult members – female and male - alike. Songs, in a mix of unaccompanied folk, pop and world music styles, are taught 'by ear'. So there is no need to read music - just a desire to flex those vocal cords and to gradually improve own singing as part of the group.' Voices Unplugged
